I began my musical career in the sixth grade by joining the band. I played trumpet throughout high school, till I graduated at Ingleside High in 1973. I attended Delmar college in Corpus Christi. I began learning to play guitar and bass at 14, and along with some friends formed a folk & gospel group called H.I.S. At 16, during a revival at First Baptist in Ingleside, I accepted Christ as my savior, realizing I was just going through the motions of being a christian, never having given my heart to Jesus. Shortly after that I gave what musical talents I have to God to do with as He willed. While attending college, I was allowed to become a part of a newly formed group, called the Watchmen. I played bass guitar. Although the group was together only a couple of years, it was a turning point in my life. I learned a lot about Southern Gospel Music, but I got to see God working in my life and in the lives of others like I'd never seen before. I saw what God can do in your life if you just say "here I am, Lord." and get out of the way. Again, in 1981 I was allowed to be on the ground floor of the formation of another group, the Song of Glory. The name comes from a scripture. Today I am the only remaining original member. Most of the ex members remain on the board of trustees...they are like family. God has brought me from a shy young man who preferred to sit back and just play, to a full time singer who also does the emceeing. There is no way I could do this on my own. Every time I speak or sing I have to trust God to get me through it. Although my dream is to be in full time service singing gospel music, God has not seen fit to allow me to do that. So I just keep on praising Him and Thanking Him for every opportunity to serve Him. At my job, or singing on weekends or after work. Through the years my wonderful wife, Gay, and our four children, Wendy, Martha, Blair, and Amanda, have supported me in this ministry. Now with our beautiful granddaughter, Taylor, and the fact that since December of 1996 Gay has been singing along side me in the Song of Glory, I can't thank the Lord enough for all His blessings. I can't imagine going through a single second of one day without my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, guiding me, always there to pick me up when I fall, and still loving me when I fail Him. |
